Not everyone loves reptiles, but reptiles can also be good pets for the chosen few. Before making a decision about adding a reptile to your family, be sure to consult the laws in your area. Some reptiles, like constricting or venomous snakes, are not allowed, by Law, in some areas.

It is best to pick a captive-bred reptile when possible so that your pet will be used to handling by humans. When purchasing your reptile at a pet store or breeder, look for a healthy one with clear, alert eyes and no visible sores or lesions.

There are many considerations one has to make before choosing a pet for the family. While all pets require attention, there are some who demand more than others. In addition, there is the cost factor as well as making the determination as to whether or not having small children in the home is conducive to owning a pet. Before making a decision, you have to ask: Is our family ready for a pet? Let’s take a closer look at the issues.

Here is a typical scenario: It’s a beautiful spring day and you decide to take your small children into town. While there, you happen to pass a pet shop. The kids become quite excited at the puppies and kittens on display. They press their noses up against the window and begin choosing which puppy or kitten they want to bring home.

Because my wife is a toy dog breeder, it isn’t unusual for her to get several calls a week from people who practically beg her to sell them a puppy. They cite their financial and social ability to care for the puppy and often try and avoid the question of children in the household.

As a rule, my wife finds this humorous. People shouldn’t have to beg, fill out a twenty-page adoption application or hide the fact that they have children to purchase a puppy. It’s pet protection gone wild.

Many if the people who make their own snake or other reptile cages adapt other designs or continue to improve on the designs they have already used.

When you adapt a cage design from basic plan you can use it to make a reptile or snake cage to suit your own needs. You may have a space that is not quite suitable for the size of the original design. You may want to adapt a half built cage, a closet or an old cupboard. You may want to make a specific length, height or width. You may have limited access to materials or you may have an existing stockpile of materials that want to use.

While most people have dogs or cats as pets, there are others who prefer exotic animals. At a time when many of these exotic animals are listed on the endangered species list, nonetheless, a variety of animals are captured, traded illegally, and sold to consumers.

There are many considerations involved in owning these not so ordinary pets. Therefore, use caution when getting an exotic pet.

Snakes and other Reptiles

Although snakes, iguanas, and lizards are popular exotic pets; they are not suitable for families with young children. They require high maintenance and special dietary needs.

In addition, they also require large enclosures and specific temperatures simulating their environment in the wild.

So, you’ve decided to get a pet.

But you don’t know what kind yet.

You leave the comfort of your home sweet home and go to the local pet shop. After looking at several types of dogs, cats, birds, and even fish, you suddenly realize that you want something out of the ordinary; something that would definitely turn heads. Â

I will begin by stating that you should not attempt herbal healing for your pet unless you have a good understanding of what is ailing your pet. And a good understanding of the healing herbs. Don’t guess…..check with a veterinarian first!

NEW YORK (AP) — SuNae Martz is a 10-year-old jetsetter who’s crisscrossed the globe more than once. The catch: SuNae is a dog — a fluffy white coton de tulear, to be exact.

Her owner, Gayle Martz, takes her everywhere she flies, from Paris to New York to Los Angeles. But SuNae doesn’t fly in the belly of the plane like common cargo. She’s first class, in the cabin under Martz’s seat.

“I don’t check my jewelry, and SuNae is my most precious jewel,” said Martz, a former flight attendant-turned entrepreneur who created and sells a soft-sided pet carrier, the Sherpa Bag.

SuNae is one of a half-million pets that fly each year, according to statistics complied by the U.S. Department of Transportation. But not all airlines permit pets to fly in the cabin, and other policies vary too.
