How Long Does It Typically Take a Horse to Fully Recover From Colic Surgery?
Posted on 2010 under Horses and Ponies | 1 Comment30 Jan
My horse had colic surgery in January (freak genetic thing in his intestines). Everything went as smooth as it could have and I began riding him again at the end of April/beginning of May. We are back to competeing at the same level as we were before his surgery, but we aren’t quite “there” all the way (he is doing WAY better than we all expected though) So, I was just wondering how long does it typically take for all the muscles to regain their previous strength? Or will they ever be the same?
Thanks :]

Typically around a year, could be more or less depending on the horse and how badly it coliced. The younger it was when it had the surgery, the faster it will heal.
