Caring for your dog’s teeth is your responsibility. On the face of it may appear to be something that is not so necessary, but the fact is that your pet needs as much dental care as you do. The basic rule that prevention is better than cure applies as much to dog teeth as it does to any other pet health issue.

Without proper precautions there is a possibility of relatively minor problems ending up as major health issues over time. These simple problems in the mouth tend to aggravate into dental diseases. Plaque can mineralize within a couple of days after coming in contact with saliva and convert to tartar that sticks strongly to the gums.

This is what eventually leads to an inflammation of the gums, gingivitis, which can potentially progress into a more serious dental disease known as periodontitis. Eventually the infectious bacteria may enter the system and spread to vital organs elsewhere in the body.

The initial symptoms of dental disease start with bad dog breath. Canine bad breath is normal in puppies when they are shedding teeth but in adult bad breath is a sign of dental problems. If you want to avoid any such problems, It is recommended that a teeth cleaning regime and other good dental practices be adopted from the beginning.

There are numerous products available in the market that can help you with this. Puppies have to be trained to accept teeth cleaning and brushing. The process of acceptance may take some time and you may struggle with a dog that bites off the toothbrush or refuses to be still when you are trying to clean the teeth.

A dog oral breath spray is something that you can use while you are in the process of training your dog to accept a complete dental cleaning. Dog oral sprays are convenient to use and can maintain a healthy level of oral bacteria.

Pet supply stores normally sell oral sprays that contain chlorhexidine, a long-lasting liquid antiseptic used by surgeons to wash their hands before performing surgery. However, oral sprays containing natural ingredients like aromatic and other herbs are also available and these do not have any chemicals that may harm your dog.
The herbal sprays for dental cleaning have been based on the theory that dental health of wild animals is ensured by regular consumption of certain leaves and organic substances. The bottom line is that synthetic products, irrespective of their properties of killing disease causing micro-organisms, are basically not meant for internal consumption. Herbal sprays are safer and more effective in achieving balanced bacteria in the mouth.

Oral breath sprays are also effective in getting rid of dog bad breath and therefore are an important part of preventive home care. A complete dental care program should ideally include a diet that promotes dental health, regular brushing and professional cleaning periodically, if the need arises.
