The Shih-tzu is mostly known for its vibrant beauty, abounding energy, and imperial attitude. In fact, the Shih-tzu has become one of the most popular breeds among consumers searching for the unimaginably cute and playful puppy.

The Shih-tzu originates in China. It is believed that these tiny dogs originated in Tibet and then were brought to be bred in the City of Peking. The Shih-tzu quickly caught the eye of the Imperial Chinese court and were guarded protectively by their benevolent owners. The Scottish Terrier is a big favorite among dog lovers and has been for some time, ranking well in the AKC popularity charts. Everyone recognizes the Scotty on sight, and he’s well known as a solid companion to both adults and children.

The Scottish Terrier is warm-hearted, discreet, sociable, brave, and prone to keeping a sharp eye on family activities. He isn’t as loud or reactive as some of the other terriers, so when he’s well trained, your eardrums should remain intact. The average Scottish Terrier weighs about 20 pounds. Unlike some terriers, his tail is left natural, not cut.

Breed Profile - The Labrador Retriever

Origin:

The origins of the Labrador are rather obscure but two types of dog were known in Newfoundland - a large heavy dog used to pull boats into land and a lighter, smoother coated variety used by fisherman to retrieve game and fish. They were both known as Newfoundland dogs and it was not until 1812 that the larger breed was known as Newfoundlands, and the smaller as the lesser Newfoundland or Labrador. In 1814 Labradors were taken to England where, in a book ‘Instructions to Young Sportsmen’, the breed was described as ‘by far the best for every kind of shooting’.

Children and Toy Dog Breeds: Fact Verses Fiction

Because my wife is a toy dog breeder, it isn’t unusual for her to get several calls a week from people who practically beg her to sell them a puppy. They cite their financial and social ability to care for the puppy and often try and avoid the question of children in the household.

As a rule, my wife finds this humorous. People shouldn’t have to beg, fill out a twenty-page adoption application or hide the fact that they have children to purchase a puppy. It’s pet protection gone wild.

The origin of Great Danes, like that of many other varieties of dogs, is so obscure that all researches have only resulted in speculative theories, but the undoubted antiquity of this dog is proved by the fact that representatives of a breed sufficiently similar to be considered his ancestors are found on some of the oldest Egyptian monuments.
