Unforeseen Dangers of Spring

With warmer spring weather arriving in the next few weeks, pet owners face an entire new set of challenges. While your pet was likely cooped up inside during the winter, the change in climate will soon likely bring your pet outdoors—also exposing it to potential health hazards.

Nearly every system in your pet’s body can be affected by the change in season, but preventative measures can be taken to ensure your pet stays safe and healthy while frolicking in the great outdoors!

When unleashing your pet into the yard, park, or other place of recreation, be sure to err on the side of caution regarding the territory they investigate. Puppies especially tend to mistake blooms, leaves, and branches as potential chew toys, which can disrupt digestive systems or even be poisonous.

Well, you have done all your research and homework and made the commitment to adopting a pet into your home. Before you bring the new addition home, to be a good pet owner you will need to make your home pet friendly. Yes, there are certain preparations that you can make that will make your pet integrate better into your household. Some should be done before you bring your pet onto the premises and some will evolve as you get to know your pet.

If you have decided to bring a new puppy into your home, before he arrives prepare your house for his arrival. Here are a few tips to get your home pet-ready:

If you are one of those families who love animals and happen to have two pets, you can be very creative in naming your pets. Some names just seem to go together. You can use rhyming names, or you can choose famous pairs, or couples in history to names your pets. It is a particularly cute way to name your pets if both pets are the same type (two dogs or two cats, for example). But even if your pets are different types (a cat and a dog, or a bird and a cat) naming them can still be playful and fun. Two animals that are different sizes also can create a lot of variety in names (you may have a Chihauhau and a Great Dane, for example).

Every pet owner wants to keep his or her beloved cat or dog as safe as possible. You want to do everything you can do make sure your pet is well cared for and healthy. If you have an indoor pet, you may not think that keeping identification tags is important, but it is. What if your feline friend or dog companion accidentally slips out of the door and into a world that is unfamiliar to him? He may get lost. What do you do, especially if your dog or cat has no identification? Placing a collar with an identification tag is important, but ever collars can sometimes become lost. When you consider the fact that many animal shelters only keep dogs and cats for seven days, you want to ensure that your pet is properly identified. That is where the microchip comes in handy. The microchip is the best way to identify lost pets and helps ensure that your lost dog or cat finds his way back home.

To ensure fun, stress-free travel with your canine pal, follow these 5 simple tips:

1. With experience, most dogs get over the tendency to become sick when riding in a moving vehicle. However, some will almost always get queasy. In such cases, you should ask your veterinarian to prescribe a motion sickness pill or a sedative.

2. Do not try to sneak your dog into a motel or hotel. If you are caught doing this, you will just make it very hard for people with dogs who come along after you. There are many great places that accommodate well-behaved dogs. An extensive directory of motels and hotels that accommodates pets can be obtained online or from your preferred travel agency.
