Question:
How long a dog can survive without appropriate treatment after being diagnose of Diabetes? Is it possible for them to fully recover from Diabetes if treatment is being applied?
Daniele
Answer:
Hi Danielle,
Thank you for your query. You are to be commended for researching the use of natural alternatives.
Diabetes mellitus is a condition caused by too much glucose (sugar) in your blood. The problem with this sugar in the blood is that it binds to the different things in blood eg. hormones, thus stopping these from working. The sugar will also damage the blood vessels themselves, leading to problems like retinopathy (where the vision is altered). The sugar also effects with oxygen supply, thus making your pet Sluggish. If diabetes is not treated it can cause long-term health problems.

You needn’t be too concerned with exact amounts when giving your pet fresh or dried Herbs, according to Randy Kidd, PhD, DVM, and author of Dr. Kidd’s Guide to Herbal Dog Care (Storey Books, 2000) and Dr. Kidd’s Guide to Herbal Cat Care (Storey Books, 2000).
Absorption is limited with whole Herbs compared with extracts. Plus, pets normally won’t chow down on Herbs like they do on kibble. Kidd recommends giving pets anywhere from a pinch to a teaspoon of fresh or dried herbs daily, depending on their size. To increase an herb’s effectiveness, Kidd also advises taking breaks—for example, he suggests adding an herb to a pet’s diet for three weeks and then skipping it for three days.
Echinacea - (Echinacea angustifolia, E. purpurea) - small animals: 1 pinch large animals: 1 teaspoon
* Echinacea balances the Immune System.
* Sprinkle the fresh or dried herb over food.

Answer:
Hi Chris,
Thank you for your query. You are to be commended for researching the use of natural alternatives.
It must be very distressing to see your pet so sick. Since we are unable to examine your pet, we cannot make a diagnosis. Thus we recommend that you take your pet to your vet, where a correct diagnosis can be made and any underlying conditions may be ruled out. Thereafter, we will be happy to help determine, if need be, which of our remedies would best suit your pet.

Today is a day for announcements I guess - so here are two sites I think you should check out.
The first is a natural health database that I’ve built that covers every kind of health problem, herbal/aromatherapy recipe and healing modality I could think of. So far (and trust me, it’s not done!) there are more than 1500 articles and recipes - all for people. Pet recipes and articles will be added soon, I promise!

The second is a line of remedies from MicroNutra called “PetFriendly”. I’m really impressed with these, they are medically sound and all natural and are very effective.

Rufus (my Aging dog), my wife, and I all take our anti-Aging Herbs on a daily basis, and I am firmly convinced that they are helpful. Judging by the comments from my many human clients who are using the Herbs I’ve recommended for their older dogs, Herbs are truly one of the very best treatments available for an Aging body - whether you are a human or a dog!
The following herbs are beneficial for both humans and dogs.

Question:
Our 9 year old female beagle has been drinking alot more than usual and has had a Urinary Infection this past week. She took antibiotics but is still drinking more than usual. She has also lost weight. She took several steroid shots for allergies this summer and everything I ‘ve read on the internet lead me to believe she may be developing Diabetes. Would your Diabetes formula be safe for her to try?

Answer:
Hi Shelly
Thank you for your query. You are to be commended for researching the use of natural alternatives.
Certain symptoms are common in cats and dogs with Diabetes. However these signs may also indicate other diseases or conditions. The best way to determine if your pet has diabetes is to have his Blood Sugar Levels checked by means of a blood test.

In 1993, in my senior year of veterinary school, I went to the annual conference of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. Among the many great speakers, one in particular stood out: Dr. Richard Pitcairn, the world-renowned veterinary homeopath who has trained hundreds of veterinarians in classical Homeopathy. Dr. Pitcairn gave two lectures on vaccines and vaccine-related disease that forever changed the way I would practice veterinary medicine.
Many people don’t realize this, but in addition to being a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Pitcairn has a doctorate in Veterinary Microbiology; his studies emphasized viruses, immunology, and biochemistry. His credentials are impeccable, so his words had great impact. He has had a huge influence on educating both veterinarians and the public on the concept of “vaccinosis. ”

Question:
Six months ago I adopted a two year old dog. He is a well-mannered animal except for the Anxiety he suffers when we leave him alone. He doesn’t destroy things or go to the bathroom in the house or even bark, but he shakes excessively whenever he knows we’re going to leave the house and he cries.
Upon returning, he is naturally, excited, but won’t leave our side. Even when we return home, he is still shaking for at least an hour. He becomes so upset that he won’t eat. In fact, the only time he is calm enough to eat is in the middle of the night, when he knows we are home. any suggestions? We have already tried all of the usual tactics…not making a fuss when we leave, crate training, etc…and seeing that he doesn’t eat, I don’t know that any medication would would help.

Birds are very sensitive creatures and can easily get Stressed by changes to their environment. Parties and gatherings, especially around the holidays, can bring lots of noise and Stress into your birds’ environment. Here are a few tips to help Polly feel contented during the chaos:
* Avoid high traffic areas - don’t put your bird “in the line of fire”. This means away from doorways, noisy areas full of guests, and the blaring television, etc.
* Beware strangers bearing Gifts - instruct children not to try to feed your bird any holiday treats which can cause intestinal upset.
* Find a quiet getaway - put your bird in a bedroom or other quiet room and try using a blue or green light bulb in your bedroom lamp. Birds respond well to these calming colors.
