Tips For Training Your Cat

Posted: Tuesday, May 16th, 2006 @ 9:19 am in Training Your Pet, Cats & Kittens | No Comments »

You can’t train a cat, like you can a dog. If you try to, you’ll probably cause behavioural problems later on. But you can teach it not to perform bad habits. But most times the owner will have to change to fit in with the cat.

Every one in your house, should agree with what you are going to allow the cat to do. Do not change the rules when you’ve decided them, as this can cause difficulties.

Although your cat doesn’t realise it right now, after some tender loving care and a little shampoo, he will appreciate it.

Cats hate water, that much is easy to see as he lashes out at you with his claws when he gets anywhere near it. Why would someone want to bathe their cat, then?

The Sacred Space

I’d like to take a minute and let all of you know about a Yahoo group that I have.

Sometimes we do things because we simply know they are important without really having any understanding as to the ‘why’ behind it. This is one of those things for me.

The group was started last year - and, due to an awful lot of trauma in my life, it was left to wither. However, for weeks now I’ve been being ‘nudged’ to get it open and active again - and finally decided to listen to those nudges and get busy.

Dog Behavior Training - What Kids and Toddlers Need to Know

Posted: Friday, May 12th, 2006 @ 6:18 am in Training Your Pet | No Comments »

Every year, a staggering number of children suffer horrific injuries from a dog attack and many cases, the dog is known to the child.

Dogs are pack animals, where each dog understands its place in the hierarchy. Safe dogs are dogs that have been brought up to think that all humans, down to the smallest child, are higher than them in the hierarchy. Unfortunately, many dogs consider that children or adults that are not from their “family pack” are lower than them in the hierarchy and think they have permission to Bite if a child or person does something that they don’t like.

Comparing Cat Breeds

Posted: Thursday, May 11th, 2006 @ 7:36 am in Cats & Kittens | No Comments »

There are two basic American breeds of cat. The shorthair and the wirehair. I would like to compare the two, and list their subtle differences. Remember, this is only a comparison between the two most common American breeds.

Originally known as the Domestic Shorthair, the breed was renamed “American Shorthair” in 1966 to better represent its “All American” character and to differentiate it from any other shorthaired breed. The name “American Shorthair” also reinforces the idea that our native North American shorthaired cat is distinctly different from what may be found in streets, neighborhoods and barnyards.

Why Does My Cat Bite My Hand When I Stroke Her?

Posted: Sunday, May 7th, 2006 @ 10:44 am in Cats & Kittens | No Comments »

You have settled into your favorite armchair, perhaps reading the final chapters of a gripping novel. Suddenly you are aware of the imploring stare of your cat sitting at your feet. You invite her onto your lap. Gently you begin to stroke her and your cat signals her appreciation with an audible purr.

One hand holding your book the other hand continuing to pet your mouser, you again get lost in your novel. All is well in the world with you and with your cat.
